Hey everyone. I mentioned this in another post but I'm a transfer student and English is my second language. I've been in the US for 3 years now, so I'm okay, but academic writing is a whole different beast. 📚😅

My specific struggles:
  • Word choice: I use simple words because I'm afraid of using fancy ones wrong. My writing ends up sounding basic.
  • Sentence structure: I default to subject-verb-object. Every time. It gets repetitive.
  • Idioms/natural phrases: I don't know what "sounds right" to native speakers.
  • Transitions: My paragraphs just... start. They don't flow into each other.
  • Tone: I swing between too formal (like a robot) and too casual (like a text message).
What I'm looking for in an editor:
  1. Patient and kind—I'm learning, I'm not stupid. Please don't make me feel dumb for my mistakes. 🙏
  2. Explanations—If you change something, tell me WHY so I learn for next time.
  3. Content feedback—Not just grammar, but does my argument make sense? Am I answering the prompt?
  4. Affordable—I'm a broke student. I can pay, just not $50/page. 💸
What I'm working on this week:
  • 5-page Sociology paper on urban gentrification
  • Discussion post for my Communications class
  • Personal statement draft for summer internship applications
If you're an editor (or just a native speaker who's good at this), hit me up! We can discuss rates, turnaround time, etc.

Also if anyone has tips for self-editing as an ESL writer, drop them below. I need all the help I can get. 🌟

Thanks!!
