discussion posts are the WORST part of online classes. and then you have to REPLY to TWO classmates?? with "meaningful engagement"?? what does that even MEAN. 🤷‍♀️

like, susan's post about cognitive behavioral therapy was fine. i agree with susan. but do i have 100 words of agreement?? no. i have "same susan, same" and that's it.

so i started using AI for replies.

don't come for me. we're all struggling. 🤪

what i've tried:
  • ChatGPT (free): it works but the replies are SO formal. like "I appreciate your insightful perspective on the multifaceted nature of..." bro it's a discussion post not a dissertation. relax.
  • Claude: a little better?? more conversational?? but sometimes it goes off on tangents and i'm like "this person didn't even MENTION freud why are we talking about freud"
  • Perplexity: actually good for adding facts/citations to make my reply look smart but the tone is still... off
what i NEED:

  • sounds like ME (chaotic, enthusiastic, slightly unhinged)
  • short (2-3 sentences is PLENTY, susan doesn't need a novel)
  • agrees with the person but adds ONE new thought (to hit the "meaningful" requirement)
  • doesn't use words like "nevertheless" or "heretofore"
the prompt i've been using:

"write a 3-sentence reply to a discussion post about [topic]. the person's main point was [point]. sound like a tired college student who is genuinely interested but also wants to finish this assignment and eat dinner. be casual but not disrespectful. use some emojis maybe."
results: mixed. sometimes it's perfect. sometimes it's like "hey bestie!! 🌟 i totally vibe with your take on plato's cave!!!" and i'm like... that's too much. even for me.

does anyone have a BETTER prompt?? or a different AI?? i need the ✨sweet spot✨ between academic and human.

help a girl out before i have to actually READ susan's post and think about it. 😂
